I would like to trace any descendants of this family as George Franklin's wife Amelia (nee Morgan) was Sister to my Grandfather (she by their father's first wife and he by his second).
Hi! I descend (several times over in fact!) from a Joseph White, first Sheriff of Anson County, NC, This was shortly before the Revolutionary War.
Joseph was born probably in Pennsylvania or New Castle County, Delaware. He married a Sarah Headley in Pennsylvania before moving south. He was the son of another Joseph White who married Margaret Leeth. (It's possible I have these Josephs backwards--the Whites used the same given names over and over and I can't tell you how confusing it gets!! )
Anyway--the original Joseph was the son of a Moses White, who emigrated from Northern Ireland with his brother Hugh to Bucks Co, PA, in the late 17th century. Hugh White stayed in Pennsylvania altho his descendants later moved--I believe he is the ancestor of Hugh Lawson White. My ancestor Moses arrived first (with brother Hugh) at Nashimany Presbyterian Church in PA with a letter of recommendation from their pastor back home in Ireland. Moses later moved to New Castle, Delaware (we think he may have emigrated as a widower, but he had several children.) Moses's will in Delaware lists his occupation as "schoolmaster". It was probably shortly after his death that my Joseph moved south to Anson County, NC.
After that things get even murkier! I have a very long list of White ancestors, but I would love to verify these records.
Was any of your White's located in Darlington Dist? Mine, John and Lydia White, moved from Darlington Dist to E. Feliciana Parish, La. and my branch moved to Texas some in Jasper and Newton Counties and one brother and sister finally settled in Grimes and Madison counties. Edwin White my Great Great Grandfather is buried in Madisonville, Madison County, Texas , his son Archibald Nickerson White (my great grandfather) born in Bedias, Grimes County, Texas is buried in Eastland, Eastland County, Texas. I appreciate any help. I haven't been able to locate any of John's family, backing into Darlington Dist is as far as I have been able to go.
Hi, Yellow Rose (I like that name, and very suitable for a Texan! ).
Do you mean Darlington District in South Carolina? While I do live in SC, as far as I know none of my Whites ever came quite that far south. Still, I can't rule that out, since it is a vast family (a nice way of saying they bred like bunnies, lol) and I still cannot trace all of my White ancestors--there are so many of them!!
Do you have any info about your immigrant Whites? (I hope I spelled that right--I still get 'emigrant' and 'immigrant' confused! ). I'm pretty sure that my line of Whites left Northern Ireland and settled first in Pennsylvania, altho after that they did scatter pretty far and wide! So some of them might well have ended up in Louisiana or Texas.
Looking for ancesters of James A. White, born in Mississippi abt 1854, father of Hugh Louis White born in Union City Tennessee 1888, father of James Archie born in Memphis TN 1912, brother of Hugh Anthony, Werdna, Lois and India White.
Do you know who his father is? My Great Great Great Grandfather, John White lived in E. Feliciana Parish, La. but that was orginally part of Mississippi so depending on the time line, it could have still been Mississippi during part of the early years. John and his wife Lydia had a number of children, and several of them settled in the MIssissippi area as well as moving on into Texas. My line descended from John thru Edwin, Archibald Nickerson to Onie Mack who was my grandfather. If any of these names link up to yours, I would appreciate an answer.
I am looking for information on a Robert White who married a Bessie Pollard around 1909, he is listed as a teacher in DeKalb County TN in the 1920 & 1930 census. Any information would be helpful.
