If you tried to publish and got stuck at 99-100% without successfully finishing, try publishing again now. We had a small problem but have fixed it.

In order to create the relationship between two family members who already exist in the tree, you will want to use the Attach/Detach feature.

The Attach/Detach feature is used anytime you want to build a relationship  between two persons who are ALREADY in the family tree. For example, if cousins got married, it wouldn't be suitable to create a whole new genealogy card for each one because that means they would be listed in the tree twice.

 What you want to do is to create a new type of relationship for them. This is where the Attach/Detach feature is helpful. It lets you draw a connecting line between two people (or erase one in the case of Detach). For each TYPE of relationship there is a way to Attach or Detach. For husbAND wife this feature is located  in the "Spouses" menu. For children it is located in the "Children" menu.

 There are several different ways to get to these menus:

A) On the top menu bar under Person

B) By clicking on the EDIT button on  an individual's genealogy card

C) By clicking on the EDIT button in the  "Family" section.

My recommendation when using the Attach/Detach feature is  to do it through the MANAGE function (e.g. Manage Spouses or Manage  Children). You can always do an Attach/Detach without using this screen, but  in the MANAGE screen you can see and adjust ALL details at once which is  helpful.

On your website the functionality is still less rich than that of FTB. But we're working on that.

What if I want to work on my family tree on a different computer?

The correct way to move a project from one computer to another (if both are running FTB) is to export the project as a package, and then import that package. A package maintains your data exactly, byte for byte, and can also include all your photos.

To manage packages, go to File > Manage Projects in FTB. Click any project listed and select export package. On the other computer, go to File > Manage Projects and click Import package.

You dont need to do it via Gedcom export/import. The Gedcom format does not support all the features that FTB supports in its internal format (which we call .ZED - zipped Gedcom), so some unique FTB features might be lost. For example, projects in FTB can be in multiple languages but when you export a Gedcom file you can only use one language.

You should use a Gedcom export only if you are taking the data to another application or Website.
